This is a helmet original made for WWI that was reissued and repainted at the outbreak of WW2 for use in the Civil Defense program specifically the United States Citizens Defense Corps Auxiliary Police. The insignia on the front signifies Auxiliary Police with number 209 (we have not been able to trace significance of 209). Overall condition is good with much original paint remaining, a WWII issue canvas chin strap
