The Regiment known as Fraser's Highlanders was officially raised in 1775 as the 71st SCOTTISH REGIMENT OF FOOT, specifically for the impending war in the American Colonies. The unit left England in April 1776 and arrived in New York in July 1776, then sailed onto Boston in December to be immediately attacked by American troops in Boston Harbor. Both Battalions served at the Battle of Long Island in August 1776, followed by the
