This is an excellent example of a Pre WWI (Circa 1902 1910) private purchase Campaign Hat. The hat itself conforms to the Model 1904 campaign hats but lacks the Star ventilation holes in the crown. Two years after the adoption of the 1902 Campaign Hat, the 1904 Campaign Hat, Specification No. 651, was adopted by the Army on December 29, 1904. As shown by this example, the 1904 Campaign Hat was similar in appearance
