An excavated example of the Hotchkiss shell still retaining its base. Shell measures 7" long. It was recovered at Campbell's Station (now Farragut), Knox County, Tennessee. The M1841 bronze 6 pounder cannon proved to be an excellent weapon during the MexicanAmerican War. Variants of the M1841 bronze 6 pounder were also manufactured in the Confederacy though records are sketchy. Because the South lacked the North's
