Lycoris rosea Matchsticks Northern Africa Hans Hansen created this tetraploidLycoris x rosea 'Matchsticks' is a 2020 Plant Delights Nursery JLBG introduction of a unique Sam Caldwell hybrid of Lycoris x rosea that we acquired as Lycoris radiata 'Dark Red'. While the flowers open a dark cranberry scarlet, they soon take on the blue petal tips indicative of a cross with Lycoris sprengeri. Plants like this were referred to by Caldwell as Lycoris x jacksoniana, an invalid name referring to his hybrids of Lycoris radiata x
