Now this is an extremely rare and rather lovely M1824 Bell Crown. This style of hat was in use during the 1824 1835 period. This is a very nice U. S. Militia bell crown "tar bucket" shako. Used by regular forces as well as militia units from 1820 1835. This very original example retains the eagle insignia. Shako retains a pressed leather rosette with star pattern militia button, white tuft plume, and eagle side
