This is a lovely hand carved keepsake box, constructed and carved by a German P. O. W. kept at Camp Opelika in Opelika, Alabama. This World War II era prisoner of war (POW) camp began construction in September 1942 and shut down in September 1945. The first prisoners, captured by the British, were part of General Erwin Rommel's feared Africa Corps. It was one of these soldiers that carved this box, as per the
