Now this is an extremely rare and rather lovely M1824 Bell Crown. Although the plume is a replacement, the overall condition is unusually exceptional. This style of hat was in use during the 1821 1835 period. This is a very nice U. S. Militia bell crown "tar bucket" shako. Used by regular forces as well as militia units from 1820 1835. This very original example has a portion of the front eagle insignia missing but
