the proof marks are too obscure to accurately read so there are also a couple of unlikely possibilities from the Napoleonic Wars

being from such a small principality

This is a small 29th Infantry Division ephemera group identified to Technician 5th Grade Ernest L. Martin, serial number 20365034. In July 1944, Martin was wounded by artillery shell fragments in the wrist and leg. The group includes his D Day to St. Lo certificate, denoting that he was with the division on D Day and served with it continuously until the capture of St. Lo on July 18th, 1944.
